In the gallery above, look through 44 photos of abandoned mansions from the United States, France, England, Russia, and beyond. Whether it was a haunting, a tragedy, or the passage of time, most of the houses in the gallery above are mere ghosts of their former selves. Other times, the stories of the abandoned mansions above are simply a mystery. What happened to these homes? Sometimes, a few scant details are known. Now, their empty husks are a poignant symbol of a city's rise - and ultimate, devastating fall. Some houses, like those in Detroit, Michigan, or Gary, Indiana, are one of the hundreds of homes that were tragically abandoned in each city over the years. Yet others look like their owners merely stepped out and, despite the disrepair, could return at any moment. Some have been overtaken by nature entirely. They have trees growing through the roof and window or are mere skeletons of their former selves. In the gallery above, you'll see photos of elegant Victorian mansions tagged with graffiti, half-submerged houseboats, lonely island castles, entire communities overgrown with vines, and plenty of boarded-up windows. Are These Abandoned Mansions Prettier In Their Decay?īut the stories of other abandoned mansions have been lost to time. Round Taiwan Round notes that while there may be nothing to the haunting but rumors, the mansion has sat empty for decades. The Minxiong Ghost House in Taiwan, for example, was allegedly so fiercely haunted by a former maid that its occupants fled in terror. Other abandoned houses in the gallery above have similar stories. At one point in the 1920s, the mansion was allegedly briefly occupied by occultist Aleister Crowley. Though his grand house was taken over by his brother, it wasn't long before the Villa de Vecchi fell into disrepair. When his desperate search turned up nothing but dead ends, de Vecchi took his own life. Support low-budget filmmakers and check out this movie.Reddit Villa De Vecchi has a tragic history, and is known today as Italy's most haunted home. It also highlights how two people can conduct an investigation. This movie shows how frustrating these investigations can be. As I’ve written before, most paranormal investigations are boring. I even searched for death records from Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. I searched newspaper databases and Google for a female serial killer in that time period. The only couple is an African-American couple. I searched for a James and Ruth Blackwell residing in Pennsylvania during the 1930-1940s. Essentially, this is a low-budget short film. A web address redirects to Amazon to purchase the movie. A Facebook page exists with less than 5 entries dated either June 16 or June 21. Both documentaries and mockumentaries appear in this vast database. The evidence mounts showing this to be fictional. This short film, clocking in at 59 minutes, profiles one man’s quest to prove the ghost of a female serial killer is haunting a small house. This movie was pure fiction however, it was not a spoof. An excellent example would be Mermaids: The Body Found. Fake documentaries try to fool viewers into thinking the story is true. Mockumentaries are known to be fictional at the onset. The 1984 movie This Is Spinal Tap kicked off a wave of mockumentaries including Best in Show (2000), Bob Roberts (1992), and The Blair Witch Project (1999). Mockumentaries are parodies of real events. Little did I realize that this video was the teaser for The Blackwell Ghost, another fake documentary.įake documentaries differ from mockumentaries because they are not a parody. Paying close attention, viewers saw a white form cross in front of the camera. It featured supposed security footage of a hallway in a hotel. I ended up discussing it on a couple of paranormal radio shows. I was overjoyed to see a new movie pop up: The Blackwell Ghost, a meh fake documentary but a good representation of paranormal investigations where nothing much happens. At least 50 times for Scream (not including sequels). It is safe to say that I’ve seen Jaws over 100 times. I will watch and rewatch favorite movies over and over again. Sitting in my home in Atlanta, Georgia, I spent our Tropical Storm Irma days off flipping through my streaming services looking for something new to watch.
